1.- Hawaii (USA)
Oahu, Pipeline, Sunset and Waimea on the North Shore are truly the
highest ranking surfing sites. World class surfers generally come
between October and May. You can expect waves towering to 25 feet.
The best place for beginners, is at Waikiki Beach Center and Queens
at Kuhio Beach. On Maui, the best site is Honolua Bay wgere you
can sign up for private or group lessons. And for serious surfers,
Hanalei Bay and Tunnels will be the main attraction.
2.- Indonesia
Bali is an excellent place to start your surfing adventure (Avoid
going during dry season - June-August). The best spot in Bali is
Uluwatu where you will find big waves that break over jagged reefs.
Padang Padang is just down the beach from Uluwatu. It is dangerous
here because the waves break near a cliff. A safer alternative will
be Kuta Beach, where the sand break is California-like normally
not seen in Indonesia.
3.- South Africa
On the Southeast Coast, The Point at Jeffreys Bay is a dangerous
and beatiful site. Since the 1960's, this point-break has attracted
die-hard surfers from around the world. Surf conditions are best
between May and December. Be careful, this place is notoriously
cold and sharky.
4.- California (USA)
Santa Cruz near the Monterey Bay area, offers consistent quality
surf at its year-round breaks. Wear a full wetsuitsince the water
is always cold. The most popular spot is Steamer Lane near the Lighthouse
Point. Another common spot is PleasurePoint, heavely surfed, attracts
all level of surfers. A good spot for beginners is Davenport Landing,
being a popular summer spot.
5.- Baja, Mexico
An hour south of San Diego is Ensenada, where you can take a boat
ride to the Island of Todos Santos (home of the big wave called
"Killers"). Another spot, Isla Natividad is famous for
its many fine breaks. If you are looking for dangerous waves to
challenge, Punta Abreojos is the place to go. The major surf spots
are Zippers and Shipwrecks producing waves of up to 7 feet high.
6.- France
If you are looking for a mix of quality surf, medieval castles,
topless beaches, great night clubs and international people, Biarritz
is the place to visit. The main strand in Biarritz is Grande Plage,
where conditions are best from late summer to early fall.
7.- Fiji
Tavarua Surf Camp offers visitors a carefree surf vacation. The
main surf spot called Restaurants (because tubes peel off in front
of the eatery) is an excellent place to surf where the swell exceeds
4 feet.
8.- Australian
Queensland's Gold Coast you will find spots that have produced some
of the surfing's biggest names. Wave conditions can change quickly
due to beach erosion. There are other three major spots in Australia,
Burleigh Heads, Kirra Point and Duranbah. These three places are
considered some of the world's best consistent surf spots. Swell
with right and left peak can range between 8-10 feet.
